I have just realized a fatal flaw in my magnet search - I have a little round tray with a magnet that hold things and I had all the screws in it. I noticed the other day they don't appear to be metal. So now I feel very foolish trying to find it with a magnet. But the swiffer should have picked it up unless it rolled under a cabinet or onto the area rug.
