We have a brother/sister pair of choc labs, but they were from different litters. Our boy is seven and the girls is five. If you try and seperate the for any reason now our girl, Rhyleigh, will just lay on the floor and cry. No. We don't really have mills here. From resisterd breeder in Windsor.

Re:banned books. I was lucky growing up. While my father was not a reader, he did make sure that I could get ahold of any book I wished to read. He signed off at our local library when I was ten years old so I could get books from the adult stacks. Kids today will never know the joy of getting your first adult library card. :)

Checking to see what book is next on my list. Look like a Just hn Irving nove
1:00 pm
crosshair
Looks like it is by John Irving, and is called A Prayer for Owen Meany. Reviews seem good.
1:06 pm
ChampFit
It's a fantastic book crossy. He's a great writer.
1:08 pm
crosshair
My book genre choices range far and wide, but I do not think I have ever read anything by John Irving. Should be interesting then.
1:08 pm
MollyL
Irving's best book, in my opinion
1:08 pm
crosshair
Good place to start then. :)
1:09 pm
MollyL
The film adaption "Simon Birch" isn't bad either.
1:11 pm
crosshair
Have a book by Edward L. Beach to finish first though. My beloved can juggle a dozen books at once, but for me it is one at a time. :)
1:11 pm
ChampFit
That's my favorite thing! Finding an author that has several books to work my way through.
1:12 pm
ChampFit
I'm one at a time too.
1:13 pm
crosshair
What genres do you like, Champ?
1:14 pm
ChampFit
Usually mystery, detective stories, etc. Historical fiction. Lots of things.
1:16 pm
crosshair
My faves at this time are post-apocolyptic, and fantasy. When I was younger it was victorian horror/sea stories, and sci-fi. :)
1:17 pm
ChampFit
Just got the latest Louise Penny, but after that maybe I'll start on some sci-fi.
1:20 pm
crosshair
So, for post-apocolyptic I suggest Swan Song, by Robert R.MacCammon, and the "Lord Valentine" series by Robert Silverberg.
1:21 pm
crosshair
Swan Song gives King's novel, The Stand a run for its money.
1:22 pm
ChampFit
I haven't ready Stephen King in forever, but The Stand was awesome. Thanks for the rec crossy!
1:23 pm
ChampFit
Just found the feline word that I always miss!
1:23 pm
ChampFit
***NOT a feline person.
1:24 pm
crosshair
Np. :) Swan Song is a phone book of a novel though, so make sure you are ready for it. The story has a lot of moving parts. :)
1:25 pm
ChampFit
I generally read on my tablet before I go to bed. Should take me through to 2026!
1:26 pm
crosshair
If you need a copy, just email me and I can send it to you.
1:27 pm
ChampFit
No worries...I'll download it. It'll be lighter! :)
1:27 pm
MollyL
McCammon's "Boy's Life" is his best.
1:27 pm
crosshair
That is what I mean. Can send you an Epub digital copy.
1:28 pm
crosshair
Boys Life is excellent!
1:28 pm
ChampFit
OH!!!!!! Can we do that on FB messenger? We're friends there.
1:29 pm
crosshair
Yup. Just shoot me a message so I can see you. I am pretty much an idiot when it comes to the inner workings of FB
1:30 pm
MollyL
Swan Song was too dark for me.
1:30 pm
crosshair
It is very dark in places.
1:30 pm
ChampFit
Might be for me too then. But will give it a go. Just messaged you.
1:31 pm
crosshair
K off to try it now.
1:37 pm
crosshair
Am having issues sending it through FB. Could you just shoot me an e-mail? It will be easier.
1:37 pm
ChampFit
Doing it now!
1:37 pm
crosshair
K, off to try it again
1:43 pm
crosshair
Still waiting for your e-mail to show up. Lol, used to mail letters, now we get itchy if an e-mail takes longer than two minutes. :)
1:44 pm

Sent if from my yahoo account. No worries. It'll show up when it feels like it, I assume. ;)
1:54 pm

Yaa! It is on its way to you now, Champfit. :)

Interesting book discussion. If you like post apocalyptic fiction try Margaret Atwood's Madd Addam trilogy. Dark, but very, very good. I actually prefer it to the Handmaid's Tale. Also, Queen Esther, which I just started, and looks to be good, has only a small part at the beginning about Dr Larch and the orphanage at St Cloud's.
2:53 pm
swmbo
I love post apocalyptic fiction
2:55 pm
swmbo
I just finished Atwood's memoir also: that woman has been everywhere, met everyone and done everything! What a fascinating life!
3:05 pm
crosshair
I have yet to read anything by Atwood. I shall add ut to the list. :)
3:06 pm
swmbo
Oh, Crossy, you have such a delight before you!
3:07 pm
crosshair
Swmbo, if you like post-apocolyptic, try Down to a Sunless Sea, by David Graham.
3:07 pm
Kaplan the Magne
I think she is overrated, but I think everyone current is. because I am a snob.. I just read Daniel Fuch's Brooklyn novels and I was blown away. They're from the 1930s but are little known.
3:09 pm
crosshair
He is long passed on, but the title is readily available at used book stores, or I can send you an Epub, if you like.
3:10 pm
swmbo
Thanks, I have read it
3:11 pm
crosshair
Cool. :)
3:12 pm
swmbo
Did you read On The Beach? Brutal but also profound
3:14 pm
crosshair
Yup. Read that one.
3:14 pm
swmbo
I'm not a snob. I'll read nearly anything. Only difference is that in youth if I started it I had to finish. In old age, if it lags, or is boring, I scuttle it. Life is too short to waste on things you don't like.
3:15 pm
crosshair
I try and read a new book, followed by an old favourite. If find it "cleanses the mental palette" before each new read.

3:21 pm
crosshair
But a new one is up next. See what John Irving is all about. :)
3:21 pm

I am still looking for the 8
3:23 pm

3:36 pm
crosshair
((soodles))
3:36 pm
crosshair
Yup. It is next in the lineup. :)
3:37 pm
swmbo
Soodle I agree! I love Irving. I have read all of his book, nearly, but my two favourites are Cider House Rules and Last Night in Twisted River. But all of his books are great.
3:38 pm
swmbo
Garp, Owen meany, Hotel New Hampshire, love them!
3:39 pm
crosshair
Then, after that, it is the "Odd Thomas" series by Dean Koontz.
3:40 pm
swmbo
Not a fan of Koontz, not sure why, lots of people like him but I just can't
3:41 pm
swmbo
well, it has been a nice chat and word hunt, but I must be off. TTFN.
3:41 pm
crosshair
I think of Koontz as Stephen King Lit
3:42 pm
swmbo
very lite LOL
3:42 pm
crosshair
For when you want to read a decent horror book, but you have had five drinks already. :)
3:47 pm
crosshair
I have a theory about Koontz. I think he was greatly helped along simply because of his last name and the way books are catalogued in libraries and book stores.
3:48 pm
Soodle
Ha. Enough real life horror in the world Crossy. I avoid horror books & movies like the plague. Give me a Happy Ever After any day.
3:49 pm
crosshair
Being side by side on the shelves wit Stephen King his books got amazing exposure.
3:51 pm
crosshair
Was the same every time at the public library; you groan because all the King books are out, you look to the right, see Koontz, and decide to try him.
3:52 pm
crosshair
Only happy endings for Soodles! :)
3:53 pm

There is one on my list, I forget the author, but it is about a infant being raised by ghosts in a graveyard. :)
