Our provincial parks make for a nice, but starting in june until mid-august the deer flies and hirse flies will drive you out of the bush.

We encountered black flies a few days ago. They have hatched.

The deer flies take chunks when they bite. The only way to hike when they are active is to wear long pants, long sleeved shirt, hat, and apply a ton of Deep Wood Off with a scary DEET content.

Also, you dont bathe ir wear any scent for at least 24 hours before going in, or they will eat you for breakfast, that, and under no circumstances do you wear anything that is yellow. :/

we watch this canadian canoeer on youtube and he did a big trip in the arctic circle. the flies were so horrible he had trouble eating when he had to lift his bug netting up.

yeah, we were riding bikes on a NC beach once and it wasn't horse flies, but something else and it didn't matter that I was riding a bike as fast as I could to get away, they were biting me through my shorts. they didn't bother mr. homie one bit. they were all after me.

My only real cousin, my soul-mate and fellow Dylan aficionado died yesterday from the return of an aggressive cancer. It was sudden- he had told me two weeks ago that he was given "weeks to months." He died at home with his family, with hospice care as he chose.
