he saw the specialist yesterday, and now he is on the waiting list for knee replacement.

finally. can you get to prepare himself? he needs to gently exercise his quads, hamstrings, and calf muscles pre-op. his recovery will be so much quicker if those muscles are ready to walk properly. he will be up and walking day 1 post-op. forewarned. an easy exercise is him on bed, locking his knee and releasing it. then lock the knee and straight leg lift off the bed.

yeah, they gave him exercises to do. Also a wash that he has to use during the three days pre-op, to kill as many germs as possible beforehand. And he has to lose some more weight.

as for weight loss. try substituting butter/margarine with avocado as a spread. hard cheese only if he wants any. lots of vegs and fresh fruit. snacks as low cal as you can make them. but high protein to help build the muscles.

Here is the list: ALL BREAD, ALL PASTA, ALL FOODS MADE FROM WHEAT, ALL RICE AND FOODS MADE FROM RICE, ALL WHITE POTATOS, an occassional piece or two of sweet potato, PEAS, CORN AND ALL PRODUCTS MADE FROM CORN STARCH, CORN FLOUR, BEETS, BARLEY, BEANS (i try once or twice a month to have a tablespoon of beans for health), anything made with honey, sugar or other sugar products.

I have eggs, chicken, beef, cheese and fish. My meals consist of 1/4 of these proteins. I have 3/4 of each meal as vegetables: carrots, lettuce, cabbage, onions, garlic, all seasonings are ok if no sugar, broccoli, cauliflower, sourkraut, pickles, olives, butter, oils, lemon. I eat at most one fruit a day! Fruit is also full of sugar so one a day is enough.
