9:06 am
hurshy
one of my best inspirations is the rhyming of "mewer" with "sure"
9:07 am
swmbo
It works for me
9:07 am
hokie carla
I tried mewer too. but it does not rhyme with sure when I say them.
9:08 am
hurshy
not when you say "sure" in the USUAL way. you have to MAKE it rhyme with mewer by pronouncing it in the LESS usual way
9:08 am

I always wonder why the past tense of ar4 isn't a word, as I've heard/read it so many times used like "I couldn't be ar**d to do it", as in couldn't be bothered. And Enable's so fond of British, right? I know I always try it, haha.
11:38 am
therealblah
it is accepted in many dictionaries, just not enable
11:53 am
MollyL
The Enable nerds picked and chose what foreign words it would accept. Example: merde accepted. Merci not accepted.

rururocks
well then they can't give thanks for shit

My understanding is that the Enable word list was created (largely through the efforts of Alan Beale) as an attempt to address problems with the original Official Scrabble Players Dictionary, which was supposed to be list of all words 2 to 8 letters long found in five major North American dictionaries (and has never actually been used for tournaments). The Enable word list removed the length limit and added words that had been omitted from the OSPD (which was assembled manually, and had some problems). Since then it has been updated once with words that have been added to the source dictionaries since it was originally created. Generally, whether a word is in the list or not depends on whether it is found in the source dictionaries.

Good afternoon. :)

rururocks
is that from google Gillie?
2:13 pm
Gillie
It's based on a few sites, including http://www.bananagrammer.com/2013/12/t\nhe-amazing-enable-word-list-project.ht\nml, https://everything2.com/title/ENABLE+w\nord+list, and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official\n_Scrabble_Players_Dictionary. I googled "how was the Enable word list created" originally.
2:15 pm
crosshair
Way to cite those sources! :) B+!

The problem with any word list that is over twenty years old is that language is constantly changing. As is the content of dictionaries.
4:21 pm
MollyL
None of those links will work unless you take the \n's out of them
5:14 pm
