My late Dad took us to all the westerns & war movies when we were kids. My younger brother used to yell out ‘Are they the goodies or the baddies’ no matter who was on screen - to the intense annoyance of the other cinema goers.

and it's the kind of attitude that brits had in the world wars too, that made them like hate all germans and not recognize that like, many german soldiers were just regular guys like them. i remember an episode of a period show i watched where between the wars, this guy wanted to make a film that showed a german soldier as an ordinary/good guy, and nobody would finance it because you couldn't depict a german soldier as anything other than evil without making people mad.
