The Enable word list reportedly has at least 172,000 words, scoured from a language that is used differently in many different places and situations, and in which new words are regularly coming into use, while old words fall out of use. I don't believe anyone is actively involved in justifying every word in the list, and I am also certain that certain "words" have made it into the list purely by mistake.
