oh, forgot to tell you, stiddy. in my garden i have left my irises completely undisturbed for the last year. this year i have a stunning display of blue and dark brown flowering. the stems are nearly 3 feet long.

i have clay soil. years ago i laid down several layers of newspaper, covered it to about 8 inches thick with sugar cane straw. the whole lot composted down and now i have the richest garden baeds, soil wise.

some vining varieties do okay. bushes don't . we sometimes transplant wild roses from the woods.

oh, and this year i had a PINK forgetmenot flower. i thought i had lost it. forgeting th4 they are very hardy plants for all their tiny flowers and soft leaves and stems.

and the nasturtiums have gone for a wander. trailing in amongst my ornamental ginger, liliums, and a clump of stinky iris. so called because the leaves stink when you crush them.
