can you give them back up after you have them for a month or two? (most fosters end up adopting something eventually and stop fostering, which does not in any way mean you shouldn't do it! even if you adopt the first foster you have, you helped!)

I had a Plott hound for a long time that I got from the humane society I was working at. She was surrendered because she kept getting out of her kennel... well no shit, she's a 9 month old HOUND and she's in an 8x10 run with no top, and you never take her out? she's bored out of her mind.

I LOVE hounds. I also have a fox hound. Hounds are worth the price of admission -- which is admittedly steep. They can be a bit stubborn and when they "get their nose on" there is no stopping them. but they are so funny and goofy and loving.

I dunno. I've met a few really well mannered and well trained intact dogs. Stallions too, for that matter. But the majority of them seem to belong to people who don't do either routine care or routine training...

ah, when I was growing up we had horses. My favorite was a stallion. He was a lot of fun. But required firmer and more thoughtful handling.

we had one client who was just... just wow. She called about a horse that looked skinny but had a big belly, and told me that her 'cervix was sticking out'. (pretty sure she didn't know the difference between cervix and vulva.) Oh, and her 'tits are bigger'. I asked if she'd been in with a stallion, and she said "not for a long time" I asked if "a long time" meant 11 months ago, because it sounds like your horse is getting ready to foal. She said well, yeah, about a year ago... but she can't be pregnant! I had to explain to her that gestation in a horse is 11-13 months. Sent a doctor out to confirm, and mare foaled that weekend.

shortly after that, the same woman brought in a cat that'd been crying and biting herself on the sides for over 24 hours, and was by presentation so weak she wasn't even trying to stand. Huge distended belly, obvious contractions during exam. Woman once again insisted that there was NO WAY the cat could be pregnant because she was an indoor cat. I asked if there was never any time about 6-8 weeks ago that she got out or another cat got in, and she says oh, well, there was that one time... but still wouldn't believe me until we took radiographs and showed her the kitten skeletons.

Although, I wonder about what my vet thinks about me. My deceased son's friend lives with me and one time my foxhound got into his pot and ate it. when I came home I didn't know this and he looked like he was having some sort of neurological problem and I took him to the vet, of course. They probably thought I was a horrible person.
