dee, everyone who has a job in the family, and who wants to participate joins in. all the names go into the 'hat'. and someone's name is drawn against a person's name. obviously you don't buy for your own spouse. and all children are not a part of it. it means for the extended family you only have to buy for one person a gift of an agreed value, on behalf of the whole family.

Hubby's family would never agree; which is one reason they are not overly fond of me. I have issues with all of their gift giving... that is the only reason they get together. Several years ago, we informed everyone we are only buying for his mom... went over like a lead balloon...then we shop for our immediate family, a few aunts with no family, by brother, daughter and son-in-law. Not sure how time got away from me...
