WE live in Dix Hills, on Long Island - we are located pretty much right smack dab in the center of Long Island - between the two shores of the Long Island Sound and the Bay - that's going north to south - we are elevated - and if we go West toward NYC, with no traffic its just a 40 minute ride. I am 15 minutes from the Ferry to Fire Island and 10 minutes drive to Venetian Shores/Tanner's Park on the South Shore which are now gone - 10 minutes from Lindenhurst which was under water.

as long as they are dry and not exposed to wind, I would be unconcerned, Dorens. We have many animals around here that live outdoors year round (-20F) and as long as they have a dry, wind-protected area to sleep, they do well

If can donate directly, that's best for them usually (though may not get you a tax deduction. Red Cross is large enough that a chunk of all donations goes towards payroll, but at least they are reliably getting help places and not just running off with all the money, which some scam "donation" places do.

Peri, $$ is the best thing to give at this point. There are a lot of logistical problems with collecting material things and moving them to where they are needed. People like the Red Cross prefer to get money so they can buy what they need on pallets and truck it directly to where it is needed.
